PROPER MEDICATION DISPOSAL STARTS WITH YOU!

By removing unwanted, unused, and/or expired medication from your home, you decrease the likelihood of it getting into the wrong hands and causing accidental poisoning, overdose, and misuse. Drug Take Back Day usually happen twice per year, April and October, but you can dispose of medication anytime at participating facilities.

Do not flush medication, as it can cause pollution, harm aquatic species, and contaminate food and water supply.

When disposing of your medication:

  • Do not include syringes or needles
  • Keep in the original container
  • Black out all personal information on label
  • Seal in a plastic bag
  • Drop into the bin at your local disposal site

National Drug Take Back Day

In the last five years, we have collected over 1,400 pounds of unwanted medication.

In partnership with the Wright County Sheriff’s Department and local organizations, we collect unused, expired, and unneeded medications each National Drug Takeback Day. On October 25th, we hosted Take Back Day at Coborn’s in Albertville and Citizens State Bank in Montrose from 10 am to 2 pm. Stay tuned for next year’s dates!

Sharps Disposal

Sharps that are not disposed of safely may cause injury. They should never be thrown loosely into the trash or toilet. To easily dispose of sharps at home, follow these steps:

  1. Put used sharps in a strong plastic container (such as an old laundry detergent container)
  2. When not quite full, put on the lid, seal it with duct tape, and clearly label with “SHARPS – DO NOT RECYCLE”
  3. Put the plastic container in household trash

Sharps containers can also be disposed of at the Wright County Compost Facility.
