National Drug Take Back Day - stay tuned for the October date!

In the last year, we collected 229 pounds of unwanted medication.

Each National Drug Take Back Day, we partner with the Wright County Sheriff’s Department and local banks to collect unused, expired, and unwanted medications at two local banks from 10 am to 2 pm. Our drop-off sites are at The Bank of Elk River – Otsego Office and Citizens State Bank of Waverly and Montrose – Montrose Office.

By removing unwanted, unused, and/or expired medication from your home, you decrease the likelihood of it getting into the wrong hands and causing accidental poisoning, overdose, and abuse. Drug Take Back Day usually happen twice per year, April and October, but you can dispose of medication anytime at participating facilities.

Do not flush medication, as it can cause pollution, harm aquatic species, and contaminate food and water supply.

When disposing of your medication:

  • Do not include syringes or needles
  • Keep in the original container
  • Black out all personal information on label
  • Seal in a plastic bag
  • Drop into the bin at your local disposal site
